City and County crews respond to structure fire south of Carlsbad

Around 20 firefighters from the City of Carlsbad and Eddy County Fire and Rescue (ECFR) responded to a structure fire south of Carlsbad on Wednesday, said ECFR Chief Joshua Mack.

He said the fire was reported around 11:38 a.m. at 70 Stormy Lane, off of Old Cavern Highway.

Mack said firefighters extinguished the blaze nearly an hour after the fire was reported. Crews performed mop up operations well into Wednesday afternoon.

"It appears to be a pretty large site built (structure)," Mack said.

He did not have exact square footage of the burned edifice nor a damage estimate.

Mack said cause of the fire was still under investigation as of midafternoon Wednesday.

City of Carlsbad Spokesperson Kyle Marksteiner said the fire burned near the motocross racetrack.
