City of Grand Junction announces water conservation programs

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — The City of Grand Junction is launching two water conservation programs to help improve resource management for city water customers.

Turf Conversion Program

The city will hold an informational class on the Turf Conversion Program on Tuesday, Feb. 6 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The class is at the Lincoln Park Hospitality Suite on the fourth floor of Suplizio Stadium at 1307 North Avenue.

To qualify for the program, applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Be a City of Grand Junction water customer

  • Have living turf areas between 500-2000 square feet (for residential customers) or 500-3000 square feet (for commercial or non-residential customers)

We are excited to offer this new program for city water users providing an opportunity to reduce water bills by converting high water use lawns to low or moderate watering landscape.

Randi Kim, utilities director for the City of Grand Junction

Rebates of $1 per square foot for turf replacement are available for approved applicants who submit all the required information.

To help fund the Turf Conversion Program, the city received a grant from the Colorado Department of Natural Resources that the Utilities Department matched. City Council approved additional funds for the program; there is a total of $150,000 available for turf rebates.

The Turf Conversion Program will launch Feb. 1 and applications will remain open until December 2024.

Water Efficiency Rebate Program

The city is also launching its Water Efficiency Rebate Program, which includes rebates for water-saving appliances such as toilets, washing machines and tree drip irrigation kits.

By adapting our landscapes to our arid climate and replacing older appliances, we can help conserve our limited natural resources.

Randi Kim, utilities director for the City of Grand Junction

Rebates may be combined with other water conservation programs.
