City leaders set to vote on affordable housing plan involving Orlando hotel
City leaders could take a step toward creating more affordable housing in Orlando.
On Monday, Orlando City Council members are getting ready to vote on a plan that could turn the Ambassador Hotel into lost-cost apartments.

A developer wants to transform The Ambassador Hotel, located on Colonial Drive near Orange Blossom Trail, into permanent homes to help deal with the growing housing crisis.
The plan is to renovate the rooms and rent them out for $750 a month including utilities.

The developer will be directly involved in picking the tenants.
“Whether it’s through the housing homeless services network and he will partner with them to pull residents from the permanent supportive housing side which is a lot harder to house, mainly because of the limitations of the rent that is being able to be offered,” said Orlando Housing Development project manager Stephanie Neves.

In total, there would be 150 affordable low-income apartments. Since the homes would be one-bedroom apartments the project is geared towards singles and couples instead of families.
If approved the project would be finished by the fall of next year.
