There was a delay at Mableton Elementary School, one of 15 precincts. The school stayed open ten minutes later because there was a delay getting voting machines up and running Tuesday morning.

In March, voters picked city council members for districts one and six, but there are still four seats left to fill.

Aaron Carman and Michael Owens are running for mayor. They did not receive more than 50% of the vote last month, forcing a runoff election.

If Owens becomes mayor he wants to preserve home values and fight for affordable home ownership, among other things.

Some of the things Carman wants to do if he becomes mayor are minimizing city spending and attracting new development to the area.

Carman voted against the cityhood last November and supported the de-annexation from the Mableton movement.

He told Channel 2 Action News his reason for supporting the de-annexation efforts was to make sure residents’ voices were heard. He also wanted to ensure taxes don’t increase.

The bill supporting the de-annexation fell through before it was presented in the Georgia House.

Channel 2 Action News spoke with voters about what they wanted for their new city.

“There’s no town hall, they got to get a place where everybody is going to congregate and be able to come together. Where do you go to see the mayor? They got to think all this out. It’s brand new I know. It’s just going to take time,” said Bill Barnes.
