City of Margate work truck slammed into a GameStop. Seven injured, one critically hurt

Seven people on Saturday night were hospitalized, including one who police say is in critical condition, after a City of Margate truck rammed into a GameStop.

Police said the driver, an employee of Margate’s Parks and Recreation, accidentally accelerated their work truck and crashed into the GameStop located at the Lakewood Shopping Center, 5499 W. Atlantic Blvd.

Moments before, there had been a minor crash involving the same city truck and another car in the parking lot, according to police.

Among the injured after the truck smashed into the store are:

One person, who’s in “extremely critical condition” at Broward Health North in Deerfield Beach;

Three people with significant injuries who are at Broward Health North and expected to make a full recovery;

Three people, including the truck’s driver, who were transported to HCA Florida Northwest Hospital in Margate with minor injuries.

Another person, per police, suffered from “very minor injuries” and was treated by first responders. At least two other people were inside the store at the time but weren’t injured.

While Margate police is investigating the crash, the department said it “does not appear” to have been caused by a medical issue.
