The City of Monroe continue work on eight public road repair projects doing in the week of July 16-23 and will begin a ninth project.

East Second St.

Brownstown Township’s G.V. Cement Contracting is reconstructing the entire road from Washington Street to Macomb St., including the curbs, the gutters, and most of the sidewalks. “During construction, this roadway will be closed entirely to all traffic,” Monroe Director of Engineering and Public Services Patrick M. Lewis, P.E., wrote in a press release. “All mainline paving and parking areas are now complete, along with nearly all sidewalk. For the coming week, the contractor plans to complete all remaining sidewalk work, and the roadway will remain closed for joint sealing and pavement markings through the coming week.”

East Lorain St.

G. V. Cement is also reconstructing two blocks from Hollywood to Arbor with eight inches of new concrete, “including along curves and driveway approaches” according to Lewis. Lewis added, “All paving has been completed but for the coming week, the intersection at Arbor [Avenue] will be closed to Lorain Street traffic while the west half finishes curing.”

West Willow St.

G.V. Cement is also reconstructing West Willow Street from Godfroy Ave. to Monroe St., from the curbs and driveway approaches to the eight-inch-thick section of new roadway. Consequently, this section of West Willow will be closed as they “will be working on placing new concrete on the south half of the street between Godfroy and Borgese” Lewis said.

City Hall Parking Lot

City Hall is currently undergoing some restorations and so is its parking lot. “While the project itself does not require any street closures, during working hours northbound Macomb Street is sometimes being closed at Third Streets to minimize entering traffic,” Lewis wrote. “The contractor expects to finish concrete pavement early next week, but the parking lot will be closed at least through the end of the coming week for concrete to gain strength, and for joint sealing and pavement markings.”

St. Mary’s Ave.

The block of St. Mary’s between Vine St.t and Noble Ave. is also getting a new eight-inch-thick layer of concrete from G.V. Cement and is also closed to all forms of traffic. According to the City, the western half has already been done, so they will be working on the eastern side.

Orchard Dr.

The southern side of the block of Orchard Drive between Macomb St. and Riverview has already been done. according to the City. The contractor will now focus on the northern half of the street.

East Elm Ave. at Canadian National Railroad Closing

“The Canadian National Railroad has closed the crossing at East Elm, east of Dixie Highway, for repairs. This work is now planned to last through July 22,” Lewis said. A detour will be arranged via Detroit Ave. and North Dixie.

Riverview Ave.

Federal funding is being used to resurface Riverview between Maywood Ave. and Cole Rd. The Romulus-based contractor, Cadillac Asphalt, and the Milford-based concrete subcontractor Merlo Construction, will be removing three inches of asphalt Maywood and Oakwood, and reconstruct concrete from Oakwood to Cole. “For the coming week, the concrete subcontractor intends to begin curb and driveway removals. There will be mostly spot lane closures, though there may be times where individual blocks are completely closed.”

Pavement Marking

Goodrich-based JV Contracting has secured a contract to replace pavement markings all across the city. This includes everything from crosswalks to stop bars to turn arrows, according to Lewis. It will take two to three weeks, starting this week, to complete the work. This may result in what Lewis called “spot lane closures” across the city.
