City of Oak Ridge launches improved website

The city of Oak Ridge has a new website. The link, www.oakridgetn.gov, will not change from the previous city website, but the look will be new, a news release said.

The new site is easier to navigate and includes a search feature that’s prominently placed in the center of the homepage, the release said.

“Our old website’s search feature no longer functioned how it should, which made finding information on the site really difficult,” Senior Communications Specialist Lauren Gray said in the release. “This new site is designed to get residents the information they are looking for in three clicks or less – and if they can’t find it, typing it in the search bar should get them directly there.”

Those visiting the site on a mobile device will also have an improved experience from the previous site.

“Our new site adapts to fit whatever device you are using, is better for those using screen readers, and meets ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) requirements,” Gray said.

It has a more prominent navigation bar with quick links to features like online bill payment, agendas and minutes, the Oak Ridge Animal Shelter, and more.

Residents will still be able to find their meeting schedules, board and commission agendas and updates, can submit a concern or report an incident, and access contact information to city staff and departments.

“While the city utilizes several means of communication to residents, the website remains at the top of the list for importance,” Oak Ridge City Manager Randy Hemann said in the release. “It serves as a connection between our city staff, elected officials and the Oak Ridge community.”

Visitors can submit comments, questions, and suggestions related to the new city website by clicking the button in the center of the page for “Report a Concern” or by visiting oakridgetn.gov/report.

The new website is supported by CivicPlus, a Manhattan, Kansas-based web development platform that's used by communities across the country.
