City school board hears updates, approves contracts

Cambridge City Schools Superintendent Dan Coffman talked about school safety measures in place in the district, including door barricades, secure entrances to the buildings, video surveillance, two-way radios, and school resource officers, during a recent board of education meeting. He also provide updates on projects, including those at McFarland Stadium, outdoor classroom space at the middle and high schools, and new playground installation at the primary and intermediate.

During the meeting the board approved the hiring of Jamaal Lowery as head baseball coach, Bob Shepard as head softball coach, Tim Gibson as head boys’ tennis coach, Tamara Gibson as head girls track and field coach and JR Fox as head boys track and field coach, during its recent meeting.

The board also approved:

  • Several limited teacher contracts.

  • Amendments for the existing administrative contracts of Treasurer Ed Wright and Business Manager Dave Caldwell.

  • The resignations of Vickie Leeper, Amanda Markley, JP Feldner, Anthony Starr, Karly Lyons Rankin, Devin Nicholes, and Trudy Tuttle, as well as the retirements of Donald Leeper, Mary Ann Harless and Carol Shinn.

  • Tana Hall, Hailie West, and Kristina Cosgrave as attendant aides; William Calvert as educational aide and in school suspension monitor; Vickie Leeper as bus aide and mail courier; Jeremy Wheeler as a building custodian; Lois Ault and Laken Feldner as substitute custodians; and Holly Dellinger as a volunteer.

The next board meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 16.
