City of Sumner cleaning up after hit water line spews dirt and sand, shutting down intersection

The City of Sumner is cleaning up after they said a private company hit a water line and covered the Wood and Maple intersection in dirt and sand.

The city originally tweeted on Tuesday at 10:21 a.m. thinking the dirt was sewage.

At 1:38 p.m., the city said “So no smell. Good jokes, though! The water picked up tons of dirt & sand as it shot up. Bad news—the road closure will be longer than you’re likely thinking as the water heaved our roadway.”

The city said to use Academy to detour around both the construction at Main and the water line at Maple.
