Dr. Tillis, founder of the U Mass Amherst Jazz & African American Music Studies program, is an African American classical and jazz composer, musician and poet who composed more than 100 symphonies, choral pieces, solo songs and quartets. Tillis’ daughter Pam joins host Karen Holmes Ward to talk about her father’s life and legacy, along with Ashleigh Gordon, Artistic and Executive Director & Violist of Castle of our Skins, a nonprofit that celebrates black artistry through music from classrooms to concert halls.
