🌱 City's 36th Homicide + Gallatin & McDowell Curve Repair

Here are the top three stories today in Jackson:

  1. The Jackson Police Department is investigating the city's 36th homicide this year after a body was found in the 1300 block of Johnston Street. The body has been identified as Shirley Johnson, 61-years-old. She was reportedly shot in the back of the head, according to the Hinds County Coroner's Office. (WAPT Jackson)

  2. The City of Jackson began repairing the curve on Gallatin Street and McDowell Road yesterday. This section of Gallatin will be closed to motorists until the repairs are finished, which may take until Friday, Apr. 22. Crews will remove trees and repair the roadside ditch. Motorists will be directed to use I-55/I-20 Frontage Road. (WLBT)

  3. A Jim Hill High School student prepared lunch for her classmates with the JPS School Food Services Team. Janiyah White began her culinary journey during the COVID-19 pandemic with "The Flavor Trap," a service that cooks and sells dinners directly to customers. White was able to prepare lunch for her classmates after the school's Nutrition Executive Director heard about the student's food platform. (WJTV)
