Civic and faith leaders will join public safety personnel as they address issues and challenges facing the Victor Valley during the Mountain Movers public forum this week.

Hosted by HALO Project HD, the event is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at Victorville First Assembly Church located at 15260 Nisqualli Road.

HALO organizers said the event is billed as a night of “conversation, collaboration, and partnership” about the region's future—a way to encourage churches to have greater involvement in local government.

“As followers of Christ, it is time to rise, be bold, and get involved — not just this election year but every election year,” event organizers said. “With over 1,000 expected attendees, we will be hosting a time of learning, sharing, and prayerful listening.”

The speakers

Those invited include local mayors, council members, and candidates running for open council seats in the November election.

Also scheduled to attend are state and federal officials, candidates for those seats, and representatives from local public safety departments.

Speakers will have five minutes to share with the audience and will have a table to provide informational material.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to connect with the speakers and fellow attendees. Food and refreshments will be provided after the forum.

“We’ve been reluctant to get involved with politics because it’s not easy, but that is why we must do it,” event organizers said.
