Clallam County murder suspect dies at Western State Hospital

A man in custody for the 2022 murders of two people - including his own father - died May 15 at Western State Hospital Monday, according to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.

Christopher Lee Haltom, 41, had been a patient since Feb. 17, after orders from Clallam County Superior Court.

At 3:43 p.m. Feb. 25, 2022, deputies responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision on Wild Currant Way, east of Port Angeles.

When deputies arrived, they found a man and woman dead in the car.

Investigators determined the two people, Clay Haltom and Bryana Pressler, were not only victims of a homicide, but items left at the scene showed that Christopher Haltom - Clay’s son - may have been in the car at the time of the murders.

Haltom was located a short time later. He was arrested and booked into the Clallam County Correctional Facility on outstanding unrelated warrants.

On Nov. 23, 2022, detectives developed probable cause to determine Haltom was responsible for the deaths of Clay Haltom and Bryana Pressler.

The Sheriff’s Office did not reveal details about Haltom’s cause or manner of death.
