Clark-Willow Lake , Ipswich athletes lead field in Avon Invitational and Cavalier Relays

AVON — Clark-Willow Lake athletes won eight events and Leola athletes two in the Avon Invitational on Friday.

Cadence Bochek (400-meter dash, 1:09.18), Kamryn Nesheim (800 run, 2:41.19), Emma Bochek (1,600 run, 6:13.28) and Zoe Nichols (300 hurdles, 56.42) each won individual events for Clark-Willow Lake's girls.

The Cyclones also won the 1,600 (5:05.27) and 3,200 (11:02.58) relays. Nesheim, Cadence Bochek and Kelsey Hofer each ran on both relays. Johanna Vandersnick rounded out the 1,600 and Hadley Gjerde the 3,200.

Cooper Pommer won the 1,600 (5:27.85) for Clark-Willow Lake's boys, who also won the 3,200 relay (10:14.89) with runners Damian Severson, Will Hovde, Zach Ambrose and Ky Vandersnick.

Dustin Wurtz won the discus (142-10) and Austin Jenkins the 3,200 run (12:59.25) for Leola.

Cavalier Relays

ABERDEEN — Aberdeen Christian, Aberdeen Roncalli, Ipswich, Warner and Groton Area athletes won events Friday in the Cavalier Relays indoor track and field meet in the Barnett Center.

Ipswich had a big day. Tyler Hettich won the boys' 55-meter dash (6.87 seconds) and high jump (6-2) and also ran on the winning 960-meter medley relay team (3:04.31) along with Kyler Hettich, Turner Thorson and Maxwell Kulesa. Kulesa also won the 800 run (2:11.07).

Carter Geditz (55 hurdles, 8.3 seconds), Darrel Yost (pole vault, 10-6) and Lucas Rowland (shot put, 45-3.5) also won events for Ipswich in the boys division.

Ipswich's girls got wins from Marley Guthmiller (55 hurdles, 9.85 seconds and pole vault, 8-0), Quincy Olivier (pole vault, 8-0) and Gracie Lange (high jump, 4-8 and long jump, 14-5.5). Brianna Geditz, Vanesa Diaz, Ashley Ptacek and Madisyn Gellhaus won the 960 medley in 3:41.36.

Abe Kretchman of Aberdeen Christian won the boys' 200 dash (24.82) and triple jump (38-10.5). Other winners were Jayden Munroe of Roncalli (long jump, 20-1), Tristan McGannon (1,600 run, 5:46.16) and Logan Permann of Warner (400 dash, 59.86).

Groton Area's boys won the 640 (1:18.34) and 1,600 (3:49.28) relays. Keegan Tracy and Andrew Marzahn ran on both relays and Lane Tietz, Cole Simon, Ryder Johnson and Teylor Diegel each one.

Shawnteah La Croix of Aberdeen Christian (55 dash, 7.73 seconds and 200 dash, 28.26 seconds) won two events in the girls division. Other event winners were Maddie Huber of Roncalli (triple jump, 31-0), MaKenna Leidholdt of Warner (400 dash, 1:07.29), Kennadee Wiedebush of Warner (1,600 run, 6:21.51), Taryn Traphagen of Groton Area (800 run, 2;37.78) and Emma Kutter of Groton Area (shot put, 30-10.25).

Groton Area won the 640 (1:31.45) and 1,600 (3:32.37) relays with runners Jericka Locke, Kennedy Hansen, Kella Tracy and Laila Roberts).

Saturday Meets

The Corn Palace Relays at Mitchell and the Jesse James Invite at Garretson on Saturday have been cancelled.
