Clarke County Sheriff to host barbecue to launch re-election campaign
Clarke County Sheriff John Q. Williams will launch his re-election campaign during a gathering Saturday in Winterville.
Williams, who will seek his second term in office, is opposed this year by Tommy Dorsey, a veteran officer with the Clarke County School District Police Department.
Williams will host his launch from noon to 2 p.m. at the Winterville Cultural Center, 371 North Church St. The event is open to the public.
The event includes barbecue plates for a $20 donation with the first 20 visitors receiving vouchers for free plates. Food will also be available for children.
Williams, a former Athens-Clarke police sergeant, won the 2020 general election after he defeated five-term incumbent Ira Edwards in the Democratic primary.
