Clashes erupt at Iran memorial for killed student

STORY: In video footage obtained by Reuters, large crowds were seen gathered at Behesht-e Zahra cemetery to hold a memorial for Hamidreza Rouza, a 19-year-old university student who was shot and killed by security services in November.

People were seen chanting slogans and pumping their fists in the air before the gathering was violently dispersed by security forces. Reuters was able to confirm the location from the structures, road layout and features around the street, which matched satellite and file images.

Nationwide unrest has erupted since mid-September, after Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdish Iranian woman, died while in custody after she was arrested by morality police enforcing the Islamic Republic's mandatory dress code laws.
