Class of 2023 five-star Marvel Allen commits to LSU basketball

Five-star guard Marvel Allen has committed to play for LSU basketball, Allen announced on ESPN on Friday.

A 6-foot-3 shooting guard from Calvary Christian Academy in West Palm Beach, Florida, Allen chose the Tigers over Alabama, Kansas, Illinois, and Ohio State.

Allen is the first recruit in the class of 2023 for LSU. He is also the 16th five-star recruit in program history, according to the 247Sports Composite.

He is the seventh five-star recruit Will Wade has brought in during his time at LSU. The others are Naz Reid, Emmitt Williams, Trendon Watford, Cam Thomas, Efton Reid and Julian Phillips.

"By doing it early I can prepare myself for their system and what coach Wade expects," Allen told ESPN. "They fit into my playing style. They're guard-focused and I like their defensive intensity. It fits me."
