Class of 2023 recruit Youssouf Singare commits to UConn men

Sep. 22—Head coach Dan Hurley and the UConn men's basketball team's success on the Class of 2023 recruiting trail continued Wednesday night.

Youssouf Singare, a 7-foot, 185-pound center out of Our Saviour Lutheran School in the Bronx, New York, announced his commitment to the Huskies.

He is the fifth player from the Class of 2023 to commit to UConn.

"I've been to UConn twice, I did two visits. I had a chance to talk to the coaches and the staff. I had the chance to watch how they develop the players," Singare told 247Sports.com's Adam Finkelstein during a YouTube live stream announcing his decision. "After that, I had a great conversation with the coach and the staff. For me, it's a great place to develop and to get to the league. That's my goal."

A native of Mali in West Africa, Singare is ranked 120th nationally in his class by 24/7 Sports. He is the website's 18th-ranked center, and its second-ranked player from New York.

Singare also held offers from fellow Big East schools Providence, Seton Hall and St. John's, as well as BYU.

When asked by Finkelstein how he'd describe himself as a player, Singare said, "A player who doesn't care about his stats, a player who wants to win every time. I want to help my teammates."

Singare's commitment comes five days after small forward Jaylin Stewart announced his commitment to the Huskies.

Besides Stewart, who was ranked 79th nationally by 24/7 Sports, UConn had previously received commitments from combo guard Stephon Castle (23rd), shooting guard Solomon Ball (38th) and small forward Jayden Ross (134th).

Singare took an unofficial visit to Storrs two weeks ago. Ball was also on an unofficial visit while Stewart, Castle and Ross were all on official visits.

Before the addition of Singare, the Huskies' 2023 recruiting class was ranked third by 24/7 Sports, behind only Duke and Michigan State.
