Jones 48, Keys (Park Hill) 35

Sofi Woodson received the pass from Zoe Tucker in the lane.

Jones had elected to run the final seconds off the clock, but the sophomore forward was so wide open under the basket, she just rose for another score.

Woodson, a 6-foot-2 sophomore forward, was Jones' go-to player all morning and she capitalized on the opportunity. Woodson turned in 20 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks.

With Woodson leading the way, Jones took down Keys 48-35 at State Fair Arena on Wednesday. The Class 3A defending state champion took control from the opening tip and carried its lead the rest of the way.

"I'm proud of the girls," Jones coach Jenni Holbrook said, "hopefully, we got some nerves out today, it's a good first win for us.

"Sofi Woodson came up big for us, finished some shots."

While Woodson was finding her shot, Jones was playing its best defense, giving up just two first-half field goals. And the second half wasn’t much different. Jones gave up a total of eight Keys made shots from the field as the defensive prowess led to its double-digit win.

Jones’ Boston Berry turned in eight points, five rebounds and five assists, Jaelen Maples tallied seven points and Zoe Tucker totaled six points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals.

“Zoe Tucker has been our girl all year long, just defensive stopper,” Holbrook said. (We) "had a little jitters and nerves playing with an emergency brake on today, but we have some girls who haven’t been here before so hopefully this is a game to get that out.”

Jones remains undefeated in its three state tournament appearances. The first year, Jones didn’t get to play games due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Longhorns won all three tournament games last year.

Perry 52, Sequoyah Tahlequah 36

Braylee Dale cut through the Sequoyah Tahlequah defense and received the ball just as she had all morning.

The 5-foot-11 Perry forward had it going on Wednesday and she scored her final bucket with just seconds remaining for good measure.

Dale tallied a near double-double with 23 points and nine rebounds in Perry’s 52-36 rout of Sequoyah Tahlequah. Perry opened the game on a 29-9 run and rode the momentum from there for its first win in the state tournament.

“Our kids were here last year,” Perry coach Paul Duncan said, “got beat in the first round and have been working to get back here all year long. And I think the experience showed up in the beginning of the game.”

Dale was responsible for much of the opening start with Kennedy Hight anchoring her. Hight turned in a near double-double of her own with 13 points and nine rebounds.

“She’s pretty good,” Duncan said of Dale. “I’m glad she’s on our team. We have a couple pretty good shooters and so a lot of times teams have to get out there on those shooters and kind of leave her one-on-one and I’m not sure that anybody that plays can guard her one-on-one in our class. She’s a great kid and deserves that success.”

With the duo shooting hot from the start, Perry was too much for Sequoyah Tahlequah. Harley Culie was the lone spark for Sequoyah Tahlequah, turning in 16 points.

Perry held Sequoyah Tahlequah to single-digit scoring in three of the four quarters. Perry will take on Jones in the state semifinals at Yukon High School at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.

Lincoln Christian 51, Luther 25

Lexi Murphy found an open spot inside the 3-point line and didn’t hesitate.

The senior guard from Lincoln Christian rose and knocked down the jumper, which kept the Lincoln Christian fans in a frenzy.

Murphy’s shot was the final point of a 16-2 third-quarter run that just kept on expanding.

Lincoln Christian exploded in the second half to take down Luther 51-25 to advance to the state quarterfinals. Lincoln Christian went on a 26-2 run in the second half.

“I think for us, like most teams, when it’s their second time to the state tournament we just needed to get the jitters out a little bit,” Lincoln Christian coach Melody Stewart said, “and I felt like we were a little bit tight. Pressing a little bit and just finally we get in the locker room, get a chance to sit down look at each other and go, ‘It’s just another game, it’s just another court. Get in there and get refocused.’"

The two teams battled back and forth in the first half with either team not gaining the edge. That’s until Addyson Roberts knocked down a 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer to tie the game. It started Lincoln Christian's run as Luther struggled to score.

Luther put in just six points in the second half, two in the third quarter and four in the final. Lincoln Christian focused its defense on Hayln Browning and Addison Harris and it paid off. Savannah Nunley led with a double-double of 17 points and 16 rebounds but was the only offensive threat.

"I don't know how many (Harris) and (Browning) had but our game plan was to shut them down," Stewart said. "With that being said, No. 21, she had a game tonight. Hopefully we don't have to give up too much on too many other teams but our game plan was to shut those two kids down and defensively our kids just decided they weren't going to give anything up in the second half."

Audrey Hopkins led Lincoln Christian with 12 points, Chloe Ricke followed with nine and three others scored eight.

Idabel 60, Bethel 46

Jaylee Lopez drove through the lane to draw in the Bethel defense.

Lopez had been the leading scorers all night so she garnered a lot of attention. But instead of scoring this time, Lopez tossed the ball to 6-foot-6 sophomore forward Mary Carden who laid the ball up for an easy score over the Bethel defenders.

Lopez's assist to Carden was the dagger as it gave Idabel a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter.

Idabel bested Bethel 60-46 at State Fair Arena on Wednesday evening. Idabel’s speed and length were too much for Bethel to overcome. Idabel notched its first state tournament win since 2004 and made its first appearance since 2005.

“I felt like we started the game off a little rough,” Idabel coach Kayla Denton said. “This is a big stage for us. It’s been about 18 years since Idabel girls basketball has come up here, but I feel like we got settled in and our whole mission is to play together, play hard and don’t get outworked. I feel like we overcame a lot of things and got the job done.”

It was a surge of 20-point quarters for each team that led to the close game heading into halftime. Idabel’s Lopez put in 13 as Idabel scored its 21 first-quarter points, but Bethel returned the favor with Parker Stevenson scoring 12 for Bethel in its 23-point second quarter.

As Bethel was working to shrink Idabel’s lead, Stevenson picked up her fourth foul with four minutes to play in the third quarter. She didn’t return until the fourth, but by then Idabel had all of the momentum. Stevenson finished with 15 points. Josie Megehee led Bethel with 18.

Idabel’s Lopez totaled 20 points and four assists, while Carden finished with 18 points and 15 rebounds.
