Classes of 1960, 1961 and 1962 honored at Jeromesville High School Alumni Banquet

Co-President Janet Rush welcomed all the alumni and their guests Saturday to the 97th Jeromesville High School Alumni Banquet, held in the Jeromesville School building auditorium, (now Hillsdale Middle School), according to a news release from the Jeromesville Alumni Association.

We thanked Principal Tim Keib and Secretary Twila Geiser, for being so excited when we asked to hold our banquet at HMS this year, that they asked us to sign a contract, not only for this year, but also for May 2023.

This joy and excitement continued to carry down through for the next several months, not only in the school, but in the Jeromesville and Hayesville communities, The communities donated over 40 door prizes.

Co-President Lorin Weaver led us with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by the Invocation. .

Head cook Kim Paullin, prepared a delicious dinner with a choice of ham loaf and scalloped potatoes or baked chicken and mashed potatoes and gravy, California blend, orange pineapple/carrot salad and angel food cake with strawberries and whipped cream.

Band Director Allen Terwilliger and his students not only served this delicious dinner, but they also helped Custodian Tom Strine wash the tables and chairs before and after this dinner. These students were so ambitious, respectful and awesome. This banquet happens to be one of the Hillsdale Music Department's biggest fundraisers.

Sixth Grade Trevor Cline was a great tour guide.

A 20-minute break was taken for table clearing and to take pictures of the three honored classes.

The 2019 minutes were read and accepted.

The treasurer's report printed on the back of the program was accepted.

Scholarships presented to Megan Schwendeman and Oliva Traylor

Virginia Schuck gave the update on the scholarship fund. In 2021-22, two scholarships were presented, one to Megan Schwendeman and one to Oliva Traylor in the amount of $2,868 each.

Roll call was taken with 45 alumni present.

The oldest teacher present, Robert Iams, former band director, and Alice Fetzer, oldest alumni present, were each given a globe with a big read rose inside. The youngest alumni, Judy Hefflefinger Schweyer, was given several pieces of Tupperware. The youngest teacher present, W.E. Anderson, received a gift certificate from Bell Stores. The youngest teacher or principal present, Gene Yeater, received a gift certificate from the Pizza House.

Dorothy Iams, eighth grade home economics teacher, and Diane Straits Messner, elementary teacher, were also recognized.

Gifts or gift certificates were given to all 20 honored alumni from the classes of 1960, 1961 and 1962.

Twenty more door prizes were also given. Rudy Badertscher, wearing his class ring and Shirley Fulk Whitaker, wearing her class ring, were also given gift certificates.

The following merchants who gave gifts or gift certificates to alumni as door prizes: Creative Threads, Country Charm Fabric, Remaley Auctioneers, The Citadel Barbershop, 103 Performance, Pizza House, Heffelfinger Meats, Farm House Parlor & Grill, The Ladies of Love & Laughter Ladies Night, Jeromesville Market, Hayesville Bell Store, Hayesville Subway, Village Point Parlor, Brew'd Coffee & Donut Shop, Fickes Furniture and Julie Spreng Tupperware.

Since no one volunteered to run for president or secretary, Janet Rush and Lorin Weaver volunteered to be co-presidents again for 2023. Five other alumni volunteered to help where they might be needed, too.

A total of 45 alumni, 24 guests and five teachers attended for a grand total of 74 attending.

The 98th Jeromesville Alumni Banquet will take place Saturday, May 13

The 98th Jeromesville Alumni Banquet will be held on Saturday, May 13 in the Jeromesville School building (HMS) at 5 p.m. for anyone who wants to tour the school and to visit, before dinner. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m.

Please bring or wear something from your high school memories.
