Jan. 14—LEWISTON — Students at Lewiston Middle School will not have classes Tuesday following the death of a teacher.
Tim Strohm, a math teacher on Team Haleakala, died from a sudden medical event Friday, according to a message from Superintendent Jake Langlais.
"Our hearts, prayers and best thoughts go out to loved ones, colleagues, the whole LMS family and students suffering this great loss," Langlais wrote. "Tim was a man who chose education as a second career to leave a lasting impact on those around him. I think everyone would agree that he did just that. The positive impact he had on so many will carry forward."
"In support of our colleagues there will be no school for students at LMS Tuesday. However, supports will be made available for staff at LMS. We are arranging for counselors to support students with a drop in approach."
Counselors will remain available for students and staff when classes resume on Wednesday.
Services for Strohm have not yet been scheduled. If they occur on a school day, Langlais said classes at the middle school will also be canceled on that day.
There are no classes Monday because it is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Students attending other schools in Lewiston will attend classes as planned Tuesday.
