Lovers of '80s films, rejoice! Beetlejuice is finally getting a sequel—35 years after its' initial release!

It's been a long (and we mean long) time coming. For the past decade, there have been rumors and speculation that Beetlejuice would get a sequel and now the news is finally confirmed. Warner Bros. officially announced that the 1988 cult-classic is getting a second movie—and it even has a release date!

If you've seen the original Tim Burton film, you know how exciting this is! But if you haven't—well, what are you waiting for? Beetlejuice tells the story of Adam (Alec Baldwin) and Barbara (Geena Davis)—a deceased, ghost couple—who find peace in haunting their left-behind home. All goes well until a new, living family—Delia (Catherine O'Hara) and Charles Deetz (Jeffrey Jones), and their daughter Lydia (Winona Ryder)—buy the house and decide to move in and make it theirs. In an evocative effort to scare them away, Adam and Barbara hire Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton)—a prominent name in the world of the dead—to do the job. But things go a little haywire once Beetlejuice develops his own plan.

Beetlejuice became a staple film in the horror-comedy genre (as Tim Burton movies tend to do), so we're more than excited to feast our eyes on the continuation of its story this fall. Read on for everything we know about Beetlejuice 2, including the premiere date, cast news, spoilers, and more.

You'll have to wait a little bit longer! According to Deadline, Warner Bros. announced that the Beetlejuice sequel will premiere on September 6, 2024. Production for the film is set to start this summer in London. And while next year might seem far away, the timing isn't too bad given that the news was just confirmed!

In the meantime, you can always get in the weird and spooky spirit by re-watching the original Beetlejuice movie, which is available to rent or buy on Amazon.

Who will be in the 'Beetlejuice 2' cast?

Get ready for this: Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder are both confirmed to reprise their roles in the film's sequel! Plus, they will be joined by actress, Jenna Ortega, who recently worked with Tim Burton in the Netflix series Wednesday.

Both Keaton and Ryder's careers have been seasoned with acclaimed movies and shows since their roles in Beetlejuice. In 2015, Keaton was nominated for an Oscar for his leading role in Birdman and he's also known for his roles in Spotlight and Batman. Ryder was also nominated for many awards, including her roles in Little Women and The Age of Innocence. Most recently, she's widely known for her role as Joyce Byers in the popular Netflix series, Stranger Things.

What will 'Beetlejuice 2' be about?

There's no official word regarding the plot just yet. Though, since it's branded as a sequel, we can probably more or less expect a continuation of the initial story we all know and love! And given that Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder will be resuming their roles 35 years after the first movie, we can also assume it will take place sometime in the present day (or future!).
