Classic Asian restaurant in Southport set to close

A lot has changed in the past three decades on the local food scene. Throughout that time, though, Thai Peppers Restaurant has been serving up Asian fare in Southport when ethnic eateries were scare.

The restaurant at 115 E. Moore St. first opened in 1992 and drew customers from throughout the area. But now, the owners have decided to retire and plan to close at the end of April.

Their employees, though, are said to be looking for for a new location to open another Thai Peppers in Southport, according to the restaurant.

The restaurant helped introduce dishes like Pad Thai, Tom Kha Gai and Thai curries to local diners and have been among their popular dishes. Since the onset of the pandemic, Thai Peppers has been operating on a take-out only basis.

The restaurant has set a closing date of April 30, 2022.
