Classic in the Country: two of the nation's top players square off on Day 3

The third day of action at Classic in the Country started off with a pair of one-sided affairs before the visitors from Indiana and Toledo treated fans to an entertaining nail biter.

Tri-Village 50, Toledo Christian 35

The Patriots stormed out of the gate on a 17-4 run to start the game and followed up with a 19-11 third-quarter blitz to post the big win over the Eagles.

Kynnedi Hager, Morgan Hunt and Rylee Sagester provided the scoring punch for the Patriots. Hager led the way with 16 points, hitting seven of eight shots from the field. Hunt added 15 points and Sagester chipped in 11, to go with eight rebounds.

MacKenzie Royal-Davis paced the Eagles with 16 points and Kendall Braden added 10.

Toledo Central Catholic 77, Streetsboro 35

The Irish defused the Rockets right out of the gate, stroming ahead to a 17-3 lead after one period of play and stretching the lead to 39-14 at the break.

Brooklyn. Vaughn scored 24 points and ripped down 14 rebounds and Corniya Clay added 18 points for the winners. Jada Dames added 11.

Ella Kassan paced Streetsboro with 12 points.

Toledo Start 38, Lawrence Central 37

The one-two punch of Komara Sylvester inside and Tai'Laya Garrison from long range was enough to lift the Trojans over the Bears.

Sylvester did all her damage inside, while Garrison drilled three 3-pointers and an and-one. Sinia Douglas added nine points and six rebounds for the winners.

The Lampley sisters paced Lawrence Central, as Jayla finished with 11 and Lola added 10.

Purcell Marian 63, Laurel Academy 54

A matchup of two of the premier players in the country — Cavaliers sophomore Dee Alexander and the Gators' amazing freshman Saniyah Hall — did not disappoint.

Alexander pumped in 27 points and grabbed five boards, along with dishing out a pair of assists to lead the Cavaliers to victory.

Hall finished with 28 points, nine rebounds and an assist, but she didn't have the support Alexander did.

Jayda Mosley connected on six 3-pointers for her 18 points. The junior swished 6-of-8 from beyond the arc.

The Gators managed only two triples as a team, out of 16 attempts, but 21 offensive rebounds helped the Gators stay close, trailing by four at the half, 33-29. Margaret Jones grabbed six of those offensive boards, finishing with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Mason 44, Bollingbrook (IL) 43

A Madison Parrish 3-pointer from the corner in the waning seconds of the game capped an amazing comeback by the Comets, who rallied from six points down with the Raiders in possession of the ball with 37 seconds to play, only to pull out the one-point win.

Mason stormed out to a 10-4 lead in the first quarter and the Comets were up 25-13 at the half before the Raiders roared back with a 16-4 run in the third quarter to knot things up heading into the final frame.

A pair of free throws and an inside score by Perais Williams gave the Raiders a six-point lead inside the final minute, but the Comets picked up the defensive pressure and hit some clutch shots down the stretch.

Carly Prows led the scoring for the Comets with 14. The senior also muscled down 10 rebounds. Parrish added a dozen and Gabby Razzano added 10 points.

Bolingbrook got 15 points apiece from Yahaira Bueno and Angelina Smith.

West Clermont 60, Newark 20

The Wolves rolled over the Wildcats behind a balanced attack.

Seini Hicks led a trio of double-digit scorers for the Wolves with 14 points. She also grabbed seven rebounds. Ann Swisshelm added 11 points and Paige Rodriguez chipped in 10 for the winners.

Newark went 1-for-17 from 3-point range, while West Clermont knocked down 7-of-20. The defense of the Wolves also forced 24 turnovers, turning into several easy buckets.

Reynoldsburg 54, Wadsworth 40

The Grizzlies hung with the Raiders on the strength of their defense, but in the end, the lack of firepower left Wadsworth on the short end of the score.

Reynoldsburg jumped out to a 19-13 lead after the opening eight minutes and led 30-22 at the break.

Sa'Mahn Johnson and Samara Savoy paced the potent attack of the Raiders with 18 points apiece. Johnson did her damage from outside, while Savoy scored mostly from inside. Aubree Price added 11 points for the winners.

Wadsworth came up with several defensive stops, but couldn't convert of their end, managing only 16 of 51 shots from the field, while the Raiders connected on 22 of 58, four of those coming from 3-point range. An 11-4 run in the third.

No one reached double figures but nine different players scored for the Grizzlies. Brooke Baughman led the way with nine points.
