The Piano has officially drawn to a close, with 13-year-old blind musician Lucy announced as the winner.

Hosted by Claudia Winkleman, the Channel 4 series saw a number of talented amateur pianists perform at train stations up and down the country, where they were secretly being filmed and watched by pop star Mika and classical pianist Lang Lang.

The musicians had no idea that they were actually in a competition show, and that the finalists would get the chance to perform at London's Royal Festival Hall.

Mika and Lang Lang eventually whittled the contestants down to Lucy, Jay, Sean and Danny, and while all four impressed the judges with their final performances, Lucy's "jaw-dropping" rendition of Debussy's Arabesque No. 1 came out on top.

"Magical things happen with music that are against all odds and all limitations," Mika said of Lucy's performance.

"It's astonishing when it happens. When it happened in Leeds, when Lucy performed, it was jaw-dropping. It was the most humbling thing you could possibly see."

"It's a once in a lifetime experience that neither of us will ever forget," Lucy's mum said after her daughter's win. "It was literally life changing, these kind of events don't usually happen in our lives."

Jay, Sean and Danny didn’t go home empty-handed, though, as all three were gifted with a piano of their very own.

Lucy was discovered at Leeds railway station, where her stunning rendition of Chopin's Nocturne in B-flat minor left Mika and Lang Lang speechless.

The young musician, who is also neurodivergent, developed her musical abilities with the help of The Amber Trust, a charity that provides musical opportunities for blind and partially sighted children.

The Piano airs on Channel 4, with episodes also available on All4.
