Clayton County Schools lifts mask mandate for adults in school district
Clayton County Schools announced that a mask mandate for staff and visitors in district facilities has been lifted.
Monday is the first day this has gone into effect. According to the district, this decision was based on federal and state sources.

“District officials have been carefully monitoring the data from federal and state sources and believe that this is the right decision at this time. This decision does not prohibit anyone, adult or student, from wearing a mask or a face covering while in one of our facilities. The district will continue to monitor local, state, and federal health agencies and will make future decisions based on data received,” the district said in a statement.

Back in July 2022, Channel 2′s Audrey Washington spoke to Clayton County superintendent of schools Morcease J. Beasley, who said he decided to issue the mask mandate after he noticed an uptick in COVID-19 cases at some district departments.
“We thought let’s be responsible. We want to prepare for students returning in a few days and we don’t want staff out of pocket,” Beasley said.
In March 2022, Gov. Brian Kemp signed a bill that allows parents to opt kids out of school mask mandates.
