According to the DoD, Ukrainian forces are becoming increasingly more adept in delivering precise and effective strikes, exploiting vulnerabilities in the Russian military. Furthermore, force disparity in southern Ukraine is “much more favorable” to Kyiv than it was in Donbas.

“And so add that to already bad (Russian) morale and bad (Russian) troop numbers…, and I've got to think that the Ukrainians have seen that as well and are working to take advantage of it,” the Pentagon official said.

Ukrainian forces in Kherson Oblast launched a counteroffensive on Aug. 29, forcing Russian paratroopers and a Donbas puppet militia to withdraw.

Ukraine’s Operational Command South confirmed the operation is underway, and implored civilians to refrain from discussing the movement of Ukrainian troops on social media.
