Clearwater Fest, the Weeklings play Beatles, and more things to do at the Jersey Shore

After two years of virtual gathering, the New Jersey Friends of Clearwater bring their mission of environmental activism back to the people this weekend.

The 47th annual New Jersey Clearwater Festival is happening Saturday and Sunday at Riverside Gardens Park on the banks of the Navesink River in Red Bank.

The free festival runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. There will be two stages of music, free sailboat rides, educational and informational opportunities, and a children’s area.

Featured artists will include area rock band Goldenseal, and the students of the Lakehouse Music Academy of Asbury Park. There also will be sets from acts including The Wag, Spook Handy, Donna and Rick Nestler, Poppa John Bug, Tyler Eats World, the Strazzcasters, Arlan Feiles, Corvid Corpus, Amanda Duncan and Danny Adler – in addition to performers on the acoustic Circle of Song stage.

The Weeklings play The Beatles at Bell Works

Local legends will be playing rock ’n’ roll classics at a historic spot in Central Jersey.

The Weeklings – a Jersey classic rock supergroup featuring Glen Burtnik, Bob Burger, John Merjave and Joe Bellia – pay tribute to The Beatles with a performance on the outdoor deck of Bell Works in Holmdel at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Cocktails will be available for purchase, and in case of rain the show moves inside to the atrium.

Crossing Borders at Two River

The Crossing Borders (Cruzando Fronteras) Festival, showcasing new plays by Latinx playwrights, returns to the Joan and Robert Rechnitz Theater of the Two River Theater in Red Bank Thursday through Sunday.

Following a 6 p.m. Wednesday kick-off event with live music and food at Johnny Jazz Park in Red Bank, the festival will feature four new plays presented under the curation of José Zayas.

Readings include “Trilogy” by Matt Barbot and directed by Zayas, 7 p.m. Thursday; “A Skeptic and a Bruja” by Rosa Fernandez and directed by Cat Rodriguez, 7 p.m. Friday; “December” by Marisela Treviño Orta and directed by Lisa Rothe, 3 p.m. Saturday; and “The Play You Want” by Bernardo Cubria and directed by Zayaz, 3 p.m. Sunday.

Additionally, there will be a concert by Alea featuring Franco Pinna and Sinuhé Padilla at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Source Brewing celebrates third anniversary with special releases

Colts Neck farmhouse brewery Source Brewing is celebrating its third anniversary with a series of special releases this weekend.

Source is dropping barrel-aged versions of some of its hit stouts, including Fat Elvis, its 13% ABV imperial pastry stout conditioned on peanut butter, banana and vanilla, aged in Basil Hayden bourbon barrels.

Fellow offerings include other 13% ABV imperial pastry stouts aged in bourbon barrels: Watts for Breakfast, conditioned on blueberries, bourbon barrel-aged maple syrup and vanilla; and Funtella, brewed with milk sugar and conditioned on chocolate, hazelnut and vanilla.

As part of the anniversary festivities, Source also will release Source Jams, a 8.5% double dry-hopped Imperial India Pale Ale that’s a collaborative effort with Brix City Brewing of Little Ferry. This weekend's releases also include Czech-Mate, a 4.2% ABV Czech-style premium pale lager, as well as the 10% ABV triple dry-hopped triple IPA Triplicity and Birthday Cake - 3 Years, an 8% ABV imperial pastry sweet tart ale brewed with milk sugar and conditioned on strawberries, chocolate and vanilla.

The brewery’s anniversary releases will be available for purchase via Beer Broadcast starting 9 a.m. Friday. All seven beers will only be available at the brewery, and will be on tap in the Source tasting room starting Friday.

Steve Forbert at the Wonder Bar

“Romeo’s Tune” rocker and Jersey Shore favorite Steve Forbert returns to Asbury Park to headline storied hotspot the Wonder Bar at 8 p.m. Friday.

Forbert, who chronicled his life’s story in the 2018 memoir “Big City Cat: My Life in Folk Rock,” is touring in support of his latest LP, “Moving Through America.”

He’ll be backed by the New Renditions at the Wonder Bar, with a supporting set from Bob Burger and John Merjave of the Weeklings.

'The Hummingbirds' at NJ Rep

The American premiere of "The Hummingbirds: A Comedy of Menace" by Garret Jon Groenveld begins Thursday at New Jersey Repertory Company, 179 Broadway in Long Branch.

Billed as a "comedy of menace," the show plays Thursdays to Sundays, through Aug. 28.

It's a "comic-drama set in the future, which may be closer than you think," organizers say.

"Been unemployed too long? Welcome to room 347, a very special branch of the Unemployment Bureau. Here you will be placed in a job that doesn't pay enough, or a job that might be unsafe, or one that is unsavory. But, you will have to do it."

Indian Street Food Fest at Bombay River

Bombay River, 90 Broad St. in Red Bank, will present Indian Street Food Week through Aug. 12, which is dine-in only Tuesdays through Fridays.

Guests will be able to experience some of the most popular street foods and snacks from different regions of India, like Banras ki Pani Poori (semolina puffs, filled with a mixture of spicy flavored water, tamarind, potato and black chickpeas. Other selections include Bombay Masala fries (fries with chat masala and red chili powder) and Hydrabadi Pepper Chicken (crispy chicken, onions, bell peppers, black pepper, red chili, garlic and mustard seeds).

Manahopkin in Manahawkin

Stafford Township will once again host the annual Manahopkin Craft Beer & Music Festival from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday at Manahawkin Lake Park.

The festival will feature beers from breweries like 13th Child Brewery from Williamstown, Toms River Brewing, Icarus Brewing in Lakewood, and many more. Food selections will include vendors like FitChicks, Matty G Dogs, and Twisted Steaks; while live bands like Cosmic Jerry Band featuring Ty Mares, and Chevy Lopez will provide entertainment.

Support Lunch Break at the BlueClaws

Baseball fans can support the great work being done by Red Bank-based nonprofit Lunch Break, which works to help those in need in Monmouth County and beyond.
