Clemson baseball to face Virginia Tech, North Carolina in ACC Tournament games
Welcome to prime time, Clemson baseball.
The Tigers, who are the No. 12 seed in the ACC Tournament, will play each of their two Pool A opponents in 7 p.m. games at Truist Field in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Clemson (35-21, 13-16 ACC) will face No. 8 seed North Carolina (34-19, 15-15) in its tournament opener on Tuesday night, then will square off against No. 1 seed Virginia Tech (40-11, 19-9) on Thursday night.
The Tigers, who concluded their regular season with a sweep of Boston College on Saturday, did not face either of their pool opponents during the regular season.
Both the Hokies and Tar Heels will enter the ACC Tournament on a roll. Virginia Tech, which was unranked in the preseason and was swept by Georgia Tech in its first ACC series of the season, has won nine consecutive league series and is coming off a sweep of Duke. The Hokies are ranked third in the latest USA TODAY coaches poll.
North Carolina capped its regular season on Saturday by completing a three-game sweep of Florida State in which it outscored the Seminoles 28-9.
Clemson, competing in the ACC Tournament for a 48th consecutive time, is seeking its first league tournament title since 2016.
Each team in the four pools will play one game against each of the other two opponents in its pool Tuesday through Friday. The four teams with the best records in their pools will advance to Saturday’s semifinals, with the winners playing on Sunday in the championship game at noon.
Pool play games are set for 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. each day while Saturday’s semifinals are set for 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.
If teams are tied after pool play, the team with the highest seed in the respective pool will advance.
