Clemson football adds four-star Illinois tight end to the fold for 2024

Clemson football added a potentially key piece to its future offense Friday afternoon when four-star tight end Christian Bentancur committed to the Tigers.

He became Clemson’s third commitment for the Class of 2024.

A 6-foot-5, 240-pounder from Marian Central Catholic in Woodstock, Illinois, Bentancur picked the Tigers over offers from 38 other schools, including Florida, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, South Carolina and Tennessee.

His other finalists were Oregon and Ohio State.

Bentancur has amassed 106 receptions for 2,105 yards and 22 touchdowns in two seasons at Marian Central.

Bentancur is rated as the No. 3 prospect regardless of position in Illinois and the No. 4 tight end in the country by 247 Sports.

Clemson, which went 11-3 last season, loses tight end Davis Allen but does return rising juniors Jake Briningstool and Sage Ennis for the 2023 season. Both would be eligible to declare for the NFL draft after the season.

Bentacur joins four-star safety Tavoy Feagin of Tampa, Florida, and kicker Nolan Hauser of Cornelius, North Carolina, in Clemson’s 2024 class.
