Clemson football down three defensive backs for game at Boston College

Defending against Boston College star wide receiver Zay Flowers is an even more difficult task now for Clemson football.

The Tigers will be without safeties R.J. Mickens and Tyler Venables, two of the top-four tacklers on the team, as well as cornerback Sheridan Jones for Clemson's game Saturday (7:30 p.m., ABC) at Boston College (2-3, 1-2 ACC). They were not listed on the travel roster. The No. 5 Tigers (5-0, 3-0) are also without defensive tackle Bryan Bresee (non-football medical issue).

Clemson running back Kobe Pace is also not on the travel roster. He had 59 yards on 20 carries this season and only played 14 combined snaps in the previous two games against Wake Forest and N.C. State.

Mickens has started the past three games at strong safety after an elbow injury to Andrew Mukuba and his move to cornerback last week to help at that troubled position. Jones will miss his third consecutive game with injury.

Flowers last week in a win against Louisville had touchdown receptions of 69 and 57 yards, finishing with 151 yards on five catches. He has 2,460 career yards and needs 340 more to become Boston College's all-time leader. Flowers this season has also run seven times for 69 yards
