CLEMSON – As many as 15 players were injured or in various stages of rehabilitation during Clemson’s spring game last April, but only one – freshman wide receiver Adam Randall – is not expected to be healthy enough to be “full go” when the Tigers open preseason practice on Aug. 5.

Here’s an update on Clemson’s injured players as provided by the team’s assistant coaches on Tuesday during Clemson’s annual media day at the Reeves Football Complex:

Offense

Randall, a 6-foot-3 freshman from Myrtle Beach, suffered a torn ACL during spring practice on April 1 and underwent surgery the following week.

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said he expects Randall to play “at some point” this season.

“I think anything’s possible,” Swinney said. “You don’t put expectations on him because everybody’s different. He’s back when he’s back. If he’s back at the end of September, great. If he’s back in October, great. But he’s gonna be back ... there's no doubt in my mind.”

  • The team’s top two running backs – Will Shipley and Kobe Pace – both missed the spring game with minor injuries, but are “ready to go,” according to running backs coach C.J. Spiller.

  • Tight ends Davis Allen and Sage Ennis, who played through the 2021 season despite nagging shoulder and knee injuries, respectively, are full recovered, according to tight ends coach Kyle Richardson.

  • Offensive linemen Dietrick Pennington, a redshirt freshman, and John Williams, a redshirt sophomore, have both been “fully cleared,” said offensive line coach Thomas Austin.

“They’re both coming off surgeries, but they had them early in the year,” Austin said. “John went all the way through spring practice. Dietrick we tried to build up in the spring. We’re in a good spot from an injury standpoint.”

Defense

Cornerback Jeadyn Lucas, a freshman out of Mauldin High, who missed most of spring practice, has been cleared.

“He had a little minor scope to clean some things up” in his shoulder, cornerbacks coach Mike Reed said. “He’s back working out and should be ready for the season.”

  • Senior cornerback Sheridan Jones “rested a little bit” in the spring to help a nagging groin injury.

  • Defensive tackle Bryan Bresee, who missed the spring game, is fully recovered from a torn ACL after undergoing surgery last Oct. 8.

  • Safety Tyler Venables, who missed all of spring practice while recovering from surgeries to repair a torn labrum in his hip as well as a detached pectoral muscle, is ready to go, as is fellow safety Lannden Zanders, who also was held out of spring while recovering from shoulder surgery precipitated by an injury suffered in the season-opening game against Georgia.
