Clemson football recruiting continues dominating in Georgia with 4-star OL Zechariah Owens

Clemson football continued to build a formidable 2023 offensive line group with four-star tackle Zechariah Owens announcing Monday he had committed to the program.

Owens (6-foot-6, 365 pounds) plays for Eagle's Landing Christian Academy in McDonough, Georgia. He is ranked No. 169 overall and No. 16 at his position in the 247Sports Composite.

He has 10 SEC offers – South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn, Florida, Mississippi, Arkansas, Kentucky and Mississippi State. Five ACC schools offered, with Miami, Florida State, Louisville and Georgia Tech joining Clemson. Other offers include Southern California, Penn State and Michigan State.

Owens is the third offensive lineman to commit to the Tigers for 2023. He joins Harris Sewell from Odessa, Texas, who committed last week, and tackle Ian Reed of Austin, Texas, who announced on June 7. Sewell is 6-foot-4, 300 pounds and ranked 73rd overall and second among interior linemen, while Reed is No. 169 and the No. 16 tackle.

Owens is the fourth-highest ranked recruit among Clemson's 16 commitments, one spot behind Sewell with Reed ranking eighth. The Tigers' class is ranked No. 4, behind only No. 1 Notre Dame, No. 2 Ohio State and No. 3 Texas. The next-highest ranked ACC teams are Miami at No. 14 and Louisville at No. 15.

Clemson has been surging in Georgia: Owens is the eighth player to commit from that state. Of the 20 four- or five-star prospects who have committed from Georgia, Clemson has doubled the defending national champion Bulldogs' four. South Carolina is the only other program with multiple commitments – running back Dontavius Braswell and interior offensive lineman Trovon Baugh.

Clemson will be looking to add at least one more offensive lineman and is a finalist for the four the Tigers are pursuing hardest, including a pair of in-state standouts. Markee Anderson (Dorman) is ranked 125th overall, fifth on the interior and second in the state with a final four of the Tigers, South Carolina, North Carolina and LSU.

Monroe Freeling (Oceanside Collegiate Academy in Mount Pleasant) is ranked 62nd, eighth among tackles and first in South Carolina. His finalists are Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan, Florida and Miami. Tackle Stanton Ramil (Alabama) is ranked 194th and 20th at his position with finalists Clemson, Auburn, Tennessee, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Penn State and Pittsburgh. Connor Lew (Georgia) is ranked 797th and 55th among interior linemen with finalists Clemson, Georgia, Auburn and Miami.
