The Clemson football team is back in action after an off week, traveling south on Saturday for a chance to get over .500 in ACC play for the first time this season.

Clemson vs. Miami Vegas point spread

Clemson is a 3-point road favorite at Miami, according to the VegasInsider.com consensus line. The line opened at Clemson -4.5 but has dropped down to -3 through the week, resembling one of the Tigers’ closest ACC games yet in terms of point spread.

Clemson was a 1.5-point home underdog to Florida State earlier this season. Outside of that game, the Tigers have been favored by at least seven points in every game before this one. Per Odds Shark, It’s the closest Clemson-Miami point spread since 2015 (Clemson -8).

For Saturday’s night game, expect clear skies and light winds with a low of 66 degrees, per Weather.com. It’ll be sunny with a high of 87 degrees earlier in the day. Rain isn’t in the forecast.

Top storylines for the game

• After taking a bye week to heal up and rest up, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said his team will be full go against Miami. Excluding season-ending injuries to starting right guard Walker Parks and receiver Cole Turner, the Tigers should have their full two-deep roster of players available. That includes receiver Antonio Williams, who missed three games with an ankle injury; cornerback Nate Wiggins, who missed two games with a knee injury; and cornerback Sheridan Jones, who missed the Wake Forest game with day-of sickness and headaches (all tests on Jones came back clear, per Swinney).

• Clemson is currently sitting at No. 7 out of 14 teams in the ACC football standings heading into the weekend. A win against Miami keeps the Tigers’ slim conference championship game chances alive; more realistically, any win at this point adds to Clemson’s bowl game résumé. With two losses already, the Tigers aren’t a shoo-in for a New Year’s Six Bowl like they were last year as the ACC champion. The ACC is deep this year, too, with plenty of schools jockeying for upper-level bowl placements.

• Swinney tied Frank Howard last week with his 165th win; Saturday against Miami, he can pass Howard with win No. 166 and take sole control of Clemson football’s all-time coaching wins record. Trends-wise, the stats point toward success. Clemson has won four straight games against Miami (outscoring the Canes by 37 points on average in those wins) and is 16-3 under Swinney in regular season games following an off week. The Tigers did lose last season’s post-bye game at Notre Dame by 21 points.

• Clemson has the ACC’s No. 1 defense in terms of yards allowed — 261.8 per game — and a top 15 passing defense after struggling in that category last year. But the Tigers will be challenged by a high-flying Miami offense that’s one of only eight FBS teams averaging over 500 yards per game. With quarterback Tyler Van Dyke and a deep cast of offensive playmakers, the Hurricanes have the most-improved offense in the Power Five in terms of yards per play (from 5.3 in 2022 to 7.3 in 2023, a 2.0-yard jump).

Clemson vs. Miami players to watch

• Clemson WR Troy Stellato: After two injury-marred seasons, Stellato (a Florida native) has supplanted Adam Randall in the Tigers’ rotation. He logged the first start of his career against Wake Forest and is Clemson’s third-leading receiver (151 yards).

• Clemson DL Peter Woods: As T.J. Parker racks up stats, fellow freshman Woods is also making an impact. He had a career-high 34 snaps and three tackles last game.

• Miami QB Tyler Van Dyke: Though a report earlier this week cast doubt on his availability, coaches insist Van Dyke, the ACC’s leader in completion percentage, will be ready to roll Saturday. The veteran is No. 8 nationally in quarterback rating.

• Miami WR Xavier Restrepo: Restrepo, a 5-foot-10 speedster, leads the ACC in catches per game (7.83) and total catches (47) and is second in receiving yards per game (95.67). Van Dyke’s favorite target has already set career highs in every category.
