Clemson uses big second half to hand TCU its first basketball loss of the season.

TCU lost its first men’s basketball game of the season on Saturday, falling to Clemson 74-66 in the Hall of Fame Series in Toronto.

After leading by only one, 36-35, at halftime, the Tigers pulled away from the Horned Frogs in the second half.

The Horned Frogs took a brief lead in the second half, leading 39-38 in the first 70 seconds. The Tigers then took command, scoring 19 of the next 22 points to lead 57-42 with 13 minutes left in the game.

The Horned Frogs did not seriously threaten the rest of the way.

Clemson improved to 8-0, while the Horned Frogs fell to 7-1.

Emanuel Miller led the Horned Frogs with 16 points, while Micah Peavy added 12.

Clemson’s Joe Girad had a game-high 21 points.

There were nine lead changes and five ties in the first half.

The Horned Frogs forced 10 turnovers in the first half, but shot just 32.4 percent (11 of 34) from the field in the opening half. They finished at 32.2 percent for the game (19 of 59). They made just 3 of 16 three-point field goals.

Peavy had eight points and Miller had six in the first 20 minutes.

TCU returns to the court on Dec. 16 at 9 p.m. when they play Arizona State at Dickies Arena.
