Will Clemson's Myles Murphy, Bryan Bresee, Trenton Simpson go in Round 1 of NFL Draft?

The 2023 NFL Draft is almost here, and Clemson football has three players who could go in the first round. The Tigers have had at least one player selected in Round 1 in nine of the 14 years since Dabo Swinney became head coach. This year, Myles Murphy, Bryan Bresee and Trenton Simpson could make it 10.

With the start of the draft Thursday (8 p.m. ET, ESPN/ABC/NFL), we're rounding up where Clemson's first-round hopefuls are projected to be taken. We chose five first-round mock drafts from within the last week to see where the former Tigers might go — or if they'll go on Day 1 at all.

Myles Murphy, defensive end

Murphy is widely projected to be selected in the first round. The defensive end was the No. 7 player in the country out of high school in the class of 2020. He was a first-team All-ACC selection last season after tying for the team lead in sacks with 6.5. Murphy wasn't a full participant in the NFL combine and Clemson's pro day with a minor hamstring injury, but he held a private workout for scouts earlier this month.

Bryan Bresee, defensive tackle

Bresee is widely projected as a late first-round pick, but some mock drafts have him missing from Round 1. The Maryland native was the top high school prospect in the class of 2020. In his final season at Clemson, Bresee was a first-team All-ACC selection and tied Murphy to lead the team in sacks with 6.5.

Trenton Simpson, linebacker

Simpson's position in various mock drafts varies widely. Simpson's excellent performance at the NFL combine and Clemson's pro day, including a 40.7-inch vertical and 4.45-second 40-yard dash time, have improved his stock. Some experts have him as a late first-rounder. ESPN's Mel Kiper and Todd McShay even have him going ahead of Bresee and Murphy. Other mocks, however, have him as a second-rounder.
