Martha Mooney's granddaughter Emani Lewis wrote an emotional essay on behalf of her grandmother so that she could win free hearing aids offered in the seventh annual giveaway by Dr. Kristen Weinbaum, owner of Precision Hearing in Clermont.

In the note, Emani said of Mooney:

“She is always the person to greet you with a warm smile, a welcoming hug, and a lot of kisses. ... As my grandmother ages, her ability to hear has lessened and lessened, making it difficult for her to hear noises and conversations around her. Due to her inability to afford hearing aids, my grandmother has had to suffer living in silence, while the world continues around her. ... "We’ve tried through her insurance and even applied for credit to see if she’ll be approved to buy a pair of hearing aids, but unfortunately, we’ve had no success. My grandmother says she can try to save money to buy a pair of hearing aids, but she’s only on a fixed income that leaves her enough to pay bills, but little room for extra expenses. Even with our help, my grandmother continues to fall short of trying to meet her goal of affording hearing aids."

Mooney was fitted with her new  the state-of-the-art Oticon Real Hearing Aids on Jan. 5.

"I can't hear on the phone when I talk to my out-of-state relatives," Mooney said, visibly moved. "It will be so great to hear them easily now."

The hearing aids, the doctor said, restores the authentic sounds of life with precision and balance. "It employs technology that aligns with the brain's natural sound processing, granting better access to the complete soundscape and heightened awareness, engagement and focus in real-world environments," according to a press release.
