BEREA — Rookie Mike Woods had gotten off to a promising start in his first NFL training camp, but there is now a bump in the road for the young Browns wide receiver.

Woods sat out Friday's practice, the eighth full-squad session of camp, with a hamstring injury, the Browns announced. Woods attended the team's walk through in the morning and had the back of his left leg heavily wrapped.

"He's been doing amazing," cornerback Greg Newsome II said of Woods, a sixth-round draft pick who played at Oklahoma and Arkansas. "He's a very confident guy, which I like.  He can run great routes, he’s good off the line and he can catch the football, so I think he's going to make some plays for us this season."

First, Woods will need to get healthy again. He also missed time in the spring due to what coach Kevin Stefanski called "a lower-leg injury."

Other Cleveland Browns injury updates

Punter Corey Bojorquez (right foot) returned to practice for the Browns after missing practices earlier in the week.

The Browns announced the following players did not practice due to injury: wide receivers David Bell (foot), Anthony Schwartz (knee) and Javon Wims (illness), defensive tackle Sheldon Day (back), linebacker Anthony Walker Jr. (groin) and cornerback Denzel Ward (foot).

Stefanski said Schwartz is among the players he expects back on the field soon.

“Those guys are really close," Stefanski said. "I think in the next few days we will get some of those guys back.”

Center Nick Harris left practice after being poked in the eye, but he is fine, a team spokesman said.

Harris has been practicing with the first-team offensive line. Ethan Pocic filled Harris' spot after his exit. The quarterback-center exchange between Pocic and Deshaun Watson resulted in a fumble.

Cleveland Browns practice highlights

A thunderstorm forced the Browns off the fields at CrossCountry Mortgage Campus and into their indoor field house a little more than an hour into practice.

Shortly after the move inside, quarterback Jacoby Brissett wound up on the ground. When he got up, he fired the ball at the ground.

Stefanski was frustrated, too. A few minutes later, he called the team into the huddle and cautioned players against wasting each other's time with sloppy work.

Undrafted rookie safety D'Anthony Bell stole the show inside with an interception return for a touchdown off a Josh Dobbs pass.

Before Mother Nature altered the Browns' plans, rookie kicker Cade York went 5-of-6 on field goals.

Cleveland Browns roster moves include signing of USFL Defensive Player of the Year Chris Odom

Defensive end Chris Odom announced Friday night on social media he signed with the Browns.

Odom was named the USFL Defensive Player of the Year in June. Odom and Browns All-Pro defensive end Myles Garrett were teammates at Martin High School in Arlington, Texas.

Odom has appeared in 11 NFL games (seven with the Green Bay Packers in 2017 and four with the Washington Football Team in 2019), compiling 16 tackles and two sacks.

The Browns also signed Lavert Hill and waived fellow cornerback Reggie Robinson II (core muscle) with an injury designation. Robinson had missed a couple of practices before his release.

Hill entered the NFL in 2020 when he signed with the Kansas Chiefs as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2020. A University of Michigan product, Hill spent the majority of his rookie season on the Chiefs' practice squad and later had stints on the practice squads of the Philadelphia Eagles (2020), Arizona Cardinals (2021) and San Francisco 49ers (2021).
