After Cleveland County deputy shot during I-35 chase, officers launch manhunt, blue alert

A Cleveland County deputy has been shot during a chase in Garvin County, news outlets report.

According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, the incident began Wednesday as officers pursued a suspect southbound on Interstate 35. The Cleveland County Sheriff's Office told News9 the chase ended and shots were fired at Ruppe Road near Wynnewood, about 70 miles south of Oklahoma City.

Deputy Sean Steadman was injured during the altercation and was transported to OU Medical. He is stabilized, OSBI reported.

However, an innocent bystander was killed in the crossfire. A Pioneer Transport employee suffered a fatal gunshot wound from a stray bullet while in his vehicle, said Jeff Taylor of Edmond-based Pioneer Transport.

Authorities launched a manhunt for Kameron Jenkins, 25, who law enforcement saw was involved in the shooting. As of press time, the suspect was still at large.

Davis Public Schools goes on lockdown as shooting suspect at large

Around 11 a.m., Davis Public Schools went on lockdown as Murray County began searching for the suspect as well, reports KOCO. Davis is about 8 miles south of where the shooting is alleged to have occurred.

Blue alert issued across Oklahoma as officers search for suspect

Oklahoma officials issued a blue alert at 12:46 p.m. Wednesday as they continued searching for the suspect.

Blue alerts are issued by the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety to accelerate the process of locating suspects. They are only issued if an officer has been killed or injured, if the suspect poses a serious threat, and if the agency investigating has enough details about the suspect.
