Climate Protesters Occupy ANZ Bank Branch in Wellington, New Zealand

Climate protesters occupied an ANZ bank building to demand the company stop investing in fossil fuels as part of an international protest day organised by Extinction Rebellion, on October 7.

Protesters in Wellington also turned workers away from a government ministry building and blocked Stout Street in central Wellington.

Some protesters glued their hands to the glass wall of the bank building.

Protesters chanted “no more coal, no more oil, keep our carbon in the soil”.

An ANZ spokesperson told New Zealand’s 1 NEWS “We don’t lend to oil exploration. In fact, we lend a lot more to the green tech and renewable energy sectors than the non-renewable sector and that’s growing.” Credit: Fredd Marshall via Storyful
