She’s been gone for more than a decade, but John Cline still remembers his mother, Lilian Cline’s, love of Christmas lights.

“It didn’t matter if it was one light or 100. She really loved it,” said Cline.

And it is with her memory in mind the Cline family business – Cline's Nursery – is hosting its first Christmas celebration.

From 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Cline’s Nursery holds Christmas at Cline’s, a family friendly celebration of the season, with wreath making, refreshments and a Christmas tree farm. Children at the nursery will get a chance to meet local firefighters and explore a fire truck.

“We are going to have snow, no matter what the temperature is. We are going to have a fire pit, make some smores and popcorn,” said Cline.

And after the sun goes down, the nursery will light up the night with a holiday display of its own.

“We want to put something back in the community that can maybe make some people happy. Because goodness gracious we’ve had a couple of years of not being able to see a light and now we feel like we see a light,” said Cline.

The event will also aim to help those less fortunate.

Rather than charging money for the event and treats, donations will be accepted to go to the Boys and Girls Club of Cleveland County.

Cline's Nursery is located at 1901 Fallston Road, Shelby.
