Clinton County deputy injured in highway crash

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A Clinton County Sheriff Department Sergeant is recovering from non-life threatening injuries sustained when a vehicle hit their stopped patrol vehicle.

The sergeant was attending to an incident Thursday morning involving an overturned semi-truck on U.S. 127 north of Maple Rapids Rd. about 11:28, Clinton County Sheriff officials reported in a news release.

The semi was hauling grain and when it overturned, spilled the grain into the median and onto the southbound lane. The truck and trailer were blocking the left-hand lane.

The sergeant was in the patrol vehicle, with emergency lights on, investigating the crash, when a second vehicle struck the emergency vehicle.

The car that crashed into the sergeant’s vehicle was occupied by four people. The sergeant and the four occupants of the second vehicle were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash is being investigated by the Michigan State Police Accident Reconstruction Team.
