Clinton goes 5-0 at Thursday's home team invite

CLINTON — The Clinton wrestling team hosted its annual Wittenbach Team Tournament on Thursday, and the Redwolves showed why they are one of the top teams in Division 3 a season after going back-to-back as team champions in D4, going 5-0 against Allen Park, St. John’s, Jonesville, Springport and D4 third-ranked Bronson.

Clinton knocked off Allen Park 58-23 before taking down St. John’s 59-15, Jonesville 81-0, Springport 68-3 and then the Vikings 72-0 to close out the competition to stay unbeaten on the season at a 12-0 mark in dual meets.

Going 5-0 on the day for the Redwolves were Ethan Younts at 145 pounds, George Ames (152), Kent McCombs (160/171), Logan Badge (189/215), Connor Busz (119) and Chase Packard (130), while Joey Preston at 160 was also unbeaten with a 4-0 mark for Clinton.

Zak Shadley at 125, Maurice Ames (135/140), Wyatt Hicks (189/215), Braylon Long (103) and Connor Younts (112) all went 4-1 for the Redwolves, who will be back in competition on this Wednesday at the Lawton Invitational.

Tecumseh at Freeland Quad: The Tecumseh wrestling team went 2-1 in its trip up to Freeland on Thursday, picking up wins big wins over Beaverton and Cass City, but falling to the hosting Falcons in a narrow decision.

Tecumseh scored 63 points in their opening matches of the day, downing the Beavers 63-16 and Red Hawks 63-18, but despite holding a 32-21 lead with two bouts left against Freeland, gave up a pinfall and a technical fall to fall 35-32.

Leading Tecumseh in the competition with perfect 3-0 marks on Thursday were Brandon Rau (171/189), Max Marten (119), Josh Harkness (125) and Brennan Elizardo (145), while Tanek Bagrowski (215) and Max Bledsoe (215/285) went 2-0.

Going 2-1 for Tecumseh in the competition were Trace Tidswell (160/171), Sophia Sexton (112), Ben Solis (130) and Cooper Barkway (135).

Tecumseh is back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 5 in a double dual meet on the road at Bedford.
