The Jupiter High School boys and Lake Mary High girls won Class 3A state golf championships Tuesday at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills after Florida High School Activities Association officials shortened the tournaments from 36 to 18 holes because of the approach of Tropical Storm Nicole.

Jackson Klauk of Nease tied for second individually with a 71, one shot behind winner Aksel Moe of Sarasota Rivervi and Fleming Island's Tyler Mawhinney and Colton Swartz, and Bartram Trail's Brody Stevenson tied for seventh with 73s.

The FHSAA is also shortening the Class 1A tournaments to 18 holes, to be played on Saturday. The 1A tournaments were to have begun on Friday.

Klauk, who started his round at No. 10, birdied three of his last five holes but bogeyed the par-3 eighth. Swartz got within one shot of the lead with birdies at Nos. 13, 14 and 16, but bogeyed his last two.

Jupiter didn't have a player higher than a tie for seventh (Brayden Jenard with a 73) but its four scorers shot 75 or better to beat Miami Columbus by four shots and Windermere by six.

Fleming Island finished sixth, 10 shots behind the winners. Only 16 shots separated the top-10 teams.

Lake Mary, as expected, won the girls tournament with relative ease by 11 shots over Niceville. The Rams were led by Lauryn Finley, who tied for second with a 72, four shots behind individual winner Haley Davis of Ocala Forest (68).

Nease finished ninth, led by Shanya Arasu with a 77. Bartram Trail was 11th, with Fiona Clancy leading with an 81, and Fleming Island was 12th, with Kalia Polete shooting 83.
