Closure of Route 250 east of Dennison begins Wednesday

DENNISON — Work will begin Wednesday on a major rehabilitation project for U.S. Route 250 east of Dennison.

The highway will be closed for 100 days between the Route 250/state Route 800 intersection near Dennison and the Route 250/state Route 151 intersection in Harrison County.

This project will be completed in two phases.

In the first phase, construction will be active along Route 250 from Pleasant Valley Road to Route 800. After completing this work, the second construction phase will take place from Route 151 to Pleasant Valley Road.

This project includes removal of old concrete base pavement and rebuilding the roadway from the dirt up with an aggregate base and topped off with asphalt pavement.

Shelly & Sands, Inc., of Zanesville is the contractor on this $10.2 million project. The completion date for all work is Oct. 31.

Throughout construction, this section of Route 250 will be accessible with one-way, westbound traffic for emergency services, residents, property owners and businesses only.

During construction, motorists traveling east on Route 250 will take Route 800 south through Freeport to U.S. Route 22 near Piedmont Lake and then travel east on Route 22 to Cadiz, where they will be back on Route 250.

This rehabilitation work is the largest project that Ohio Department of Transportation District 11 will be undertaking this year in the seven counties it serves.

Campers and boaters headed to Tappan Lake this summer can go to the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District website to view a map of a local detour created for visitors to the lake.
