Update: Closures planned for Myrtle Beach roads – 3 are city’s busiest. Places to avoid

Those in Myrtle Beach have probably seen hundreds of barricades being placed along some city roads.

The barricades are in preparation for the Myrtle Beach Marathon on March 2. The marathon will close several busy roadways throughout Myrtle Beach.

Barricades have been placed along Robert M. Grissom Parkway, Mr. Joe White Avenue, Farrow Parkway and Kings Highway.

The city has advised hotel guests in the city this weekend to park west of Ocean Boulevard on March 1 if they are planning to drive anywhere the morning of March 2.

The city is expecting nearly 6,000 people to participate in the marathon.

The start times for the marathon are:

  • Hand-cycling/wheelchair – 6:30 a.m.

  • Marathon and half marathon participant corral A – 6:35 a.m.

  • Marathon and half marathon participant corral B – 6:40 a.m.

  • 5K participants – 7 a.m.

Motorists wanting to travel north or south are encouraged to use U.S. 17 since it is not part of the race route, the city said.
