·1 min read

Sep. 14—CLOVIS — The city of Clovis has begun accepting applications for its vacant District 1 seat on the Clovis city commission.

Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. Oct. 1 at the city manager's office or via email at jhowalt@cityofclovis.org, and are available at cityofclovis.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/4089_001.pdf. Application questions cover interest in the position, challenges the city has faced and will face, short- and long-term solutions for water supply challenges and a ranking of city priorities.

Applicants should be prepared to attend the Oct. 7 commission meeting, give a presentation of 3-5 minutes on their interest in the commission seat and answer questions from current commissioners. The commission anticipates filling the position at the meeting, as Oct. 8 is the deadline to fill the vacancy based on city charter requirements.

The seat is open to any registered voter who lives in District 1. Commission district maps are available at maps.cityofclovis.og/commissiondistricts.html. The seat became vacant with the resignation of Leo Lovett, effective Sept. 8. Lovett is leaving Clovis for a job promotion. The chosen applicant will fill the seat through at least March of next year, and the final two years of the term will be on the March 2 municipal election ballot.
