Clovis police confirm shots fired at 14th St. McDonald's

Aug. 16—A pistol and box cutter knife along with other evidence was seized in an early Saturday morning "shots fired" incident at the McDonald's restaurant at 14th and Mitchell streets in Clovis.

Officers were sent out on a "public affray" call after former Clovis police officer, now Portales police officer Brent Aguilar reported the disturbance to Clovis dispatch.

According to the redacted Clovis police report, once officers arrived on the scene at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday they talked with Aguilar who said he had stopped by the McDonald's on his way home.

Aguilar said he observed a disturbance in the drive-thru and had heard shots fired just before pulling into the McDonald's parking lot.

Clovis officers on the scene talked with those involved in the incident, a passenger in a Chevy pickup and the driver of a Dodge pickup.

The Chevy passenger alleged the Dodge driver was following the Chevy pickup too closely in the drive thru lane, words were exchanged, then he got out of the Chevy and allegedly pulled a knife.

The Dodge driver got out of his truck, allegedly pulled a pistol and fired two shots in the air. The Dodge driver told police he fired the shots to get the knife-wielding man to drop his weapon.

The knife, the pistol, shell casings and ammunition were seized as evidence and along with body cam footage from officers and submitted to the district attorney's office for consideration of charges, according to details in the incident report.

Much of the police report, including the names of those involved, has been redacted as no charges have been filed yet.
