Clovis police release more info on house burglary, fatal shooting

CLOVIS, NM — The Clovis Police Department released an update on Friday's reported burglary and person found dead at a residence on Dawn Loop.

According to previous reports, on Friday, Aug. 4, at about 9:56 a.m., Clovis officers were dispatched to 700 Dawn Loop for a reported burglary in progress. The caller told dispatch a man had broken into her house, and she had shot him. Officers arrived at the scene and found a man inside the house who had been shot and succumbed to his injuries.

According to Tuesday's release posted on social media from Clovis Public Information Officer Lt. Steven Wright, the Ninth Judicial Major Crimes Unit (MCU) was activated to aid in this investigation. All persons involved in this incident have been located and are cooperating with the investigation.

Through the investigation, the man who died has been identified as Javier Jimenez Jr., 39, and the person who resides at the residence is Alexandra Romero, 28.

Police said Romero was in the court process of obtaining a restraining order against Jimenez. Additionally, Jimenez had been arrested on a charge for criminal trespassing at the same residence in May 2022.

"This is an ongoing investigation while investigators await autopsy results and continue to conduct interviews and process evidence," the news release states. "At this time, no charges have been filed in this incident. A decision to file charges in this case is pending the outcome of the investigation."
