Clovis shooting complex opens at Ned Houk Park

Oct. 11—The Clovis Wing-Shooting Complex and Archery Range at Ned Houk Park opened Thursday.

In a news release from the Clovis city manager's office the center is described as a newly constructed multi-faceted facility that will be open Thursdays through Sundays.

The complex features four trap/skeet overlay fields, a 12-station sporting clays course, indoor and outdoor archery ranges, an indoor air gun range, and a multipurpose building for hunter education and other activities.

The complex is built on city owned land and developed by the city of Clovis in partnership with the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish using money from the wildlife restoration fund administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The news release says the range is designed to provide a safe, supervised facility for patrons here in the High Plains region.

Clovis mayor Mike Morris said, "The city of Clovis would like to thank New Mexico Game and Fish and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service wildlife restoration fund for their funding support with this exciting project for our area."

Morris said the new shooting facility will also be a place for hunter education students to continue to develop firearm safety skills, archery students to practice what they learn in the classroom, and hunters to sight in their hunting equipment.

The classrooms are in the "Joe C. Thomas Hunter Education Center" named after the city's former police chief who passed away in 2021.

New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Director Mike Sloane said, "We are proud to partner with the city to provide a safe place for the public to shoot and to practice and develop firearm and archery skills in the Clovis area,"

The news release reports the range, which will be managed by the City of Clovis, will be open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There will be varying fees to use the range: $50 for 100 sporting clay targets or $25 for 50 targets; $8 for a round of trap or skeet and $15 per day for use of the air gun or archery ranges.
